Typescript diary of a bicycle journey from Naugatuck, Connecticut to Chicago, Illinois in 1896. Orville Herning made the trip with a Rake and Son one "Patee" Bicycle, No. 5888, Grade A. Among his accessories were a bell, lantern, toolkit, and bundle carrier.He left Naugatuck on Wednesday, July 29, and reached Chicago on August 15. He continued to Rochester, Minnesota via train. On the bike, he averaged 83 6/7 miles per day.
