Materials of the Stanley H. Witmeyer papers consist of biographical information, photographs, writings by and about Stanley Witmeyer, and his professional work. There are School for American Craftsmen historical records which include exhibition catalogs, news clippings, and magazine articles. One box contains materials about the history of the School for American Craftsmen collected by Stanley Witmeyer which includes magazine articles, a copy of "The Arts and Crafts in retrospect in this the 150th anniversary of the RIT" by Harold J. Brennan and Mr. Witmeyer written in 1979; and "50 Years at the School for American Craftsmen" by Andrew Phelan in 1995. Also included in this box is a folder about artist Ralph Avery, magazine articles, and 21 reproductions of his watercolors. Records of the Stanley H. Witmeyer papers relate to Mr. Witmeyer's employment at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) as the Director of the School of Art & Design, some historical records related to the RIT School for American Craftsmen, writings about Ralph Avery, and photographs of Stanley Witmeyer. Watercolor artist Ralph Avery (1906-1976) graduated from RIT in 1928 and taught in the Applied Art Department at RIT for 25 years. He lived in Rochester for most of his adult life and frequently painted scenes from the local area's gray, foggy views of the downtown skyline, portraits of elegant old city homes, and abstractions of natural areas from the surrounding landscape. Stanley Herbert Witmeyer was born in Palmyra, PA in 1913. One of eight children, Witmeyer started playing basketball at a nearby church in the afternoons.
