The collection consists of 57 letters, all typed transcriptions: two letters, 1846-1847, from Buchanan to James B. Lane; one, 1848, from Lane to Buchanan; Buchanan to Elizabeth J. Reigart, 1849; and 53 letters, 1837-1846, between Buchanan and John W. Forney, Lancaster, Pa., printer. Includes two typed (photocopies) reminiscences of John L. Finefrock of Mercersburg, Pa., 1940, about Buchanan's niece Harriet Lane, and Buchanan's birthplace, Stony Batter.
