Newbold compares the food cultures of Minnesota and Utah by comparing her own family's food traditions and recipes with those of her husband. She compiles a cookbook of recipes from the two families and includes comments about food from various family members. Newbold divides the cookbook into the following categories: desserts, breads, main dishes, soups / salads / sandwiches, and Christmas. Newbold also includes a section of family food responses entitled "Men in the Kitchen."
