Account books of Aaron Blaney, 1773-1776. [manuscript]

First account book is labeled "Roxbury, New England, Workhouse accounts Aaron Blaney", and it contains entries concerning twisting, washing, spinning cotton or yarn with dates from 26 February 1773 to May 1775. Second account book is labeled "An account of Provisions Received by Mr Blaney Commissary" on the cover and "Receipt Book Commencing the 4 day of August 1775 by Aaron Blaney Commissary" on first page. This ledger contains sections for bread, salt beef, salt pork, rice, molasses, rum, Indian meal, vinegar, potatoes, salt, candles, flour, salt fish, butter, cider, and soap. The entries continue to 31 December 1775. Third account book is labeled "Account book of sundries delivered out of the magazine on Jamaica Plain, 1775 September 7 - November 11" on the cover. Fourth account book is labeled "An account of provisions received in at the issuing store from the Jamaica Magazine since the commencement of the year 1776 recorded by Aaron Blaney, Deputy Commissary" on the cover. This account book contains sections for pork, corned beef, molasses, rice, flannel, rye meal, flour, hard bread, hogs lard / butter / salt fish, salt, Indian meal, and peas with entries dating from 1 January 1776 to 4 April 1776. Fifth account book is labeled "An account of provisions received from the 1st of January 1776 to April 24 1776 an account of provisions" on the cover. This ledger contains sections for fresh beef, cider, corned beef, pork, flour, rum, cheese, molasses, soap, candles, an account of provisions received from the magazine on Jamaica Plain 1776, flour, and peas. The end of the account book has sections for "An account of cash received into the publick store of Mr Blaney from March 4 1776" and "Account of cash paid on publick account".

In response to the expansion of the Continental Army the number of staff was increased and reorganized in 1776. Changes included the creation of a new unit to supplement George Washington's personal staff. This special unit, the Commander in Chief's Guard, was formed on March 12, 1776 with Captain Caleb Gibbs (formerly adjutant of the 14th Continental Regiment and appointed Aid to Major General Greene) as commander.
