Carol B. (Meeks) Roskey became Dean (1997-2000) of Iowa State University's College of Family and Consumer Sciences in August 1997. She came to Iowa State University from the University of Georgia, Athens, where she had been Associate Professor (1985-1990), Professor (1990-1997), and Department Head (1992-1997) in the Department of Housing and Consumer Economics. Dr. Roskey received her B.S. (1969) in management and housing, and Ph.D. (1972) in consumer economics and housing from The Ohio State University. Prior to her tenure at University of Georgia, she taught at Cornell University (1974-1980), University of Massachusetts (1972-1974) and The Ohio State University (1968-1972). She joined the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Economic Research Service as Supervisory Economist and Housing Section Head (1980-1985) of the Economic Development Division. She also spent the summer of 1992 as a Research Fellow at the National Institute for Consumer Research in Oslo, Norway. As Dean of the College of Family and Consumer Sciences, Dr. Roskey oversaw the academic and administrative policies of the College. Private fundraising for the College increased as did the amount of scholarships awarded to students. Final fundraising and construction of the Palmer Human Development and Family Studies Building was completed during her tenure. The building opened in 2000 and houses the Child Development Laboratory School, the Marriage Family Therapy and Family Financial Counseling clinics, and office space for faculty. Dr. Roskey stepped down from her position as Dean to become Director (2003-2006) of the Center for Family Policy at Iowa State. She retired in 2006 from the Department of Human Development and Family Studies.
