A collection of materials used by Delmar Spivey which detail his experiences as the senior American POW officer in Stalag Luft III, Center Compound, and are described in his book entitled "POW Odyssey: Recollections of Center Compound, Stalag Luft III, and the Secret German Peace Mission in World War II." Extensive correspondence within the collection allows Spivey to relate the Allied prisoner of war experience in Germany during World War II, his relationship with other POWs, and their relationship with their German guards. Photographs from World War II and later of POW reunions are also incorporated in the collection.

Delmar Taft Spivey was born in 1905, graduated from high school in 1922 and attended William and Mary College. He graduated from the U. S. Military Academy in 1928 and entered flying school in 1929. After a series of assignments in Hawaii, Texas, Alabama, and Florida, General Spivey became the materiel officer of the 23rd Composite Group in 1938. Albert Patton "Bub" Clark was born in 1913 at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1936 and then went to flight training at Randolph Field, Texas in 1937. After completing flight training he was stationed at Selfridge Field, Michigan.
