President William McKinley was the 25th President of the United States. He was beginning his second term as President after winning the election in 1900. On Sept. 5, 1901 he and his wife were attending the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York when he was shot by as assassin waiting in line to shake his hand. Dorothy Cooper Allshouse was born and raised in Edinboro, Pennsylvania. She was the granddaughter of Joseph Cooper, principal of the State Normal School from 1863 to 1891. Dorothy married Harold Allshouse. She also worked at the College Bookstore in downtown Edinboro. The bookstore was a family business. During her spare time, she was an avid gardener and volunteer. In Shenango, classes were first offered in 1961 at the Hickory Township High School. In 1968, the Shenango Center was relocated to the junior high school at Farrell.
