Thomas E. Mulligan collection, 1942-1985.

An extensive collection of correspondence between General Delmar Spivey, the senior American officer at Center Compound, Stalag Luft III, and Thomas Mulligan, who was taken prisoner at the same time as Spivey. They remained friends after the war, until Spivey's death in 1982. Other important items within the collection pertain to the years spent in Stalag Luft III and contain photographs, interviews with other prisoners of war, and camp newspapers.

Delmar Taft Spivey was born in 1905, graduated from high school in 1922 and attended William and Mary College. He graduated from the U. S. Military Academy in 1928 and entered flying school in 1929. After a series of assignments in Hawaii, Texas, Alabama, and Florida, General Spivey became the materiel officer of the 23rd Composite Group in 1938.
