Pacific Hebrew Orphan Asylum and Home Society, founded in 1871 by Jewish residents of San Francisco, Calif., operated homes for orphan children and senior citizens. It was the first such organization established for the Jewish population on the Pacific coast. In 1922, the society changed its name to Homewood Terrace.
