The collection consists of teaching, writing, and consulting records of Professor Arch R. Dooley, 1933-1995. Teaching records include annotated copies of cases, research material for case studies, teaching notes and lecture drafts. Research and writing records include company reports, correspondence, and other material documenting Dooley's research on computer based automation, the impact of computers in the pulp and paper industry, continuous casting in the steel industry and research conducted with Professor Pedro Nueno of IESE on economic integration in Europe. Also includes Dooley's research material for his MBA thesis "Administering Industrial Relocation." Consulting records include correspondence, financial data, and notes documenting work with the Mars Corporation, Venture Research, Capital Corporation, and Joan Fabric, among others companies. The collection also includes material documenting Dooley's work with Harvard Business School Executive Education programs such as the Program for Management Development (PMD), and the Small Company Management Program (SCMP); some teaching material from the University of North Carolina; personal material related to Harvard Business School reunions; and recordings of classroom discussions.

Arch R. Dooley joined the Harvard Business School faculty in 1954 as Assistant Professor of Business Administration. In 1960 he became the Associate Professor and in 1969 he was named the first Jesse Philips Professor of Manufacturing. He retired from HBS in 1991. Dooley taught in various MBA, doctoral and executive education programs in the fields of production, manufacturing, entrepreneurial management and new venture formation.
