Welborn Beeson was born in Illinois in 1836 and came overland to Oregon with his parents in 1853. The family settled in Jackson County, Oregon. John Beeson was born in England and emigrated to the United States in 1830. In 1834 he settled in Illinois, where he worked as a farmer and was a supporter of temperance and abolition. Beeson emigrated to Oregon in 1853, and as a result of the Rogue River Indian War he became an advocate for the rights of American Indians.
