Quarterly reports, 1833-1839, to Horace Thompson, Superintendent of the Sabbath School at Farmington, Connecticut. Each quarterly report included reports by individual teachers as well as a summary written by Thompson, which included advice to teachers and remarks to students. In 1833, teachers often reported that students were "unsteady" in their efforts (Ozem Woodruff) or had not manifested hope in Christ. Selah Richards offered detailed character descriptions. One teacher, Sally Woodruff, felt her unfaithfulness was hindering student progress. The lack of student interest for the of care for their souls, and teacher's doubts of their abilities filled reports in the following years as well. A letter from C. Richards to Horace Thompson in the quarterly report for March 1834, mentioned the sin and misery of slavery. Other teachers whose name appear regularly are Harvey Whittelsey and Joseph Dutton, Jr. The records of the Newington Congregational Church, 1787-1836, consists of certificates of withdrawal of membership so that people could transfer to another church in good standing. The collection also includes a Photostat of the Sunday School record book of the Newington Congregational Church, 1840; the original is at the Connecticut State Library.
