Collection of lantern slides regarding the Rochester Athenaeum and Mechanics Institute, a precursor to Rochester Institute of Technology. Most images depict students in various departments and administrative documents. Rochester Athenaeum and Mechanics Institute (RAMI) lantern slides consists of 133 images. A large portion of images are of RAMI staff and students at work within various departments and classes (1907-1921), such as painting, weaving, pottery, domestic science, chemistry, dressmaking, millinery, optometry, woodworking, electrical and forge shops, and metalworking. More casual views of students, including in the library, outside buildings, in lounges, etc., are also included. These slides, numbered RIT Photo 00001 to RIT Photo 00076 have been digitized and are available for viewing in the RIT online library catalog. A lesser portion of the collection consists of images of documents and graphs. Topics include enrollment, faculty time studies, financial matters, and statistics. Most of these images date 1928-1932. A small number of slides are images of art statues, and were most likely used as study aids. Last, three glass plate negatives are included in this collection, with images of construction on Broad Street in downtown Rochester, New York.
