Although the volume is titled "fines record," no fines are listed. On the last page is a statistical summary of the Geneseo Normal School library (a visit was made for comparison on January 4, 1923). The Periodical Accessions volume contains a listing of purchased periodicals with publisher, title, and cost for the years 1897-1902.

The Rochester Athenaeum was established in 1829 with the "purpose of cultivating and promoting literature, science and the arts." To this end, the organization established a library and sponsored various guest speakers and performers. Still, by 1838 the Athenaeum had already merged with several institutes.
