[Subsurface response to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Cruise 02, Summary of data collected from the R/V Brooks McCall, May 13, 2010 - May 17, 2010] [electronic resource] / [U.S. Dept. of Commerce, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration ; U.S. Environmental Protection Agency ; BP]. [2010].

The R/V Brooks McCall loaded supplies and equipment, shifted scientific staff on May 13, departed Port Fourchon on the May 14, 2010 to collect data in the Gulf of Mexico, Mississippi Canyon. On May 15, 2010, two stations (B19 and B20) were occupied in conjunction with dispersant injection monitoring, the presence of dispersed oil between 1000 and 1400 meters depth was confirmed by the fluorometry trace in the CTD data, and by the results of the LISST particle size analyzer; On May 16, 2010, four stations (B21, B22, B23, and B24) were occupied in conjunction with dispersant injection monitoring, small particles were detectable but with low concentration, the second highest small droplet concentrations were observed at lower depths ranging from 1000 to 1300 m for all four stations; May 17, 2010, four additional stations (B25, B26, B27, and B28) were sampled for water column CTD, particle size distribution, and hydrocarbon analysis, there were significant amount of small particles that can be detected, and the second highest small droplet concentrations were observed at lower depths ranging from 1000 to 1300 m for all four stations.
