Contains family correspondence including letters to Charles Kingsley, George Kingsley and Sarah Kingsley. Letters describe: a visit to see the circus in Madison; a first hand account of the lynching of David F. Mayberry for murder in Janesville on July 12, 1855; farming and harvests; travel of young men from the east to Pikes Peak and then on to California (1858); the Civil War from the front and at home; a letter from a student at the University of Wisconsin (1866); and a letter from a soldier of the 6th Infantry Regiment serving the Cheyenne Agency in Indian Territory (1870). Also includes the patent and specifications for a butter churn by S. [Sarah] P. Kingsley, a letter to George about the patent, and other documents relating to the sale of the machine.
