Robert Pierre Johnson was elected General Presbyter of the Presbytery of New York City, United Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A., in 1967 and served until 1972, when he joined the staff of the General Assembly Office of the UPCUSA. From 1954 to 1967, Johnson served as pastor of Fifteenth Street Presbyterian Church in Washington D.C., where he also served as moderator of the Presbytery of Washington City.
