Philip Lamothe Snell Chauncy, sketcher, amateur photographer and surveyor, was born 21 June 1816 in England at Datchet, Bucks. He arrived in South Australia in 1839, went to Swan River, and was appointed assistant Surveyor at Perth in 1841. In 1853, he went to Victoria, and was appointed District Surveyor of Heathcote. In 1861, he was transferred to Dunnolly as District Surveyor. He was a major contributor to R. Brough Smyth's "Aborigines of Victoria" (1878) From the description of D...
