E. Wendell Echols (1926-2010), was born in Atlanta, Georgia. He was a collector of jazz memorabilia, and worked closely with George H. Buck, Jr., businessman and record producer. Echols was a member of the Board of Directors of the George H. Buck, Jr. Jazz Foundation, founded by Buck in 1949.
