Lecture notes on Catullus, ca. 1831-1875.

Ernst von Leutsch's handwritten notes for lectures he gave on Catullus, at the University of Göttingen, compiled over many years. The latest date found cited in the introductory material is 1875; in notes from what appears to be the oldest layer, bearing revisions in a different ink, the original version of a brief recommended bibliography has references dated no later than 1831. The introductory material (approximately 150 leaves) makes up not more than one fifth of the manuscript. It includes opening remarks (Meine Herren); an overview of Latin poetry up to the time of Cicero and Catullus; and discussion of the extent, nature and history of Catullus's poems. The remainder of the manuscript is devoted to detailed commentaries on specific poems, including carmen I to 62, and some of those numbered from 63 to 101.
