Rebecca Deakins letters, 1864-1880.

Collection includes letters from Rebecca Deakins to her husband James Deakins during the Civil War describing home life in Henry County, noting family members who have died, as well as those known soldiers who have come home or surrendered. One letter details the events surrounding a skirmish that took place in the field outside her home on August 20, 1864 between union and Confederate soldiers. Later letters from Rebecca to her sister Margaret Henderson and her niece Louisa (Pink) Henderson describe family life on a tobacco farm, visits from family and local news. One land transfer document created on April 7, 1866, to outline a purchase/property transfer for a plot of land in Lockport Kentucky (Henry Co.). One deed and one will for Samuel Johnson of Owen County (April 11, 1865) included.
