In the early 1900s, Indiana was known as "The Interurban Capitol of the World" with rail lines that connected every major city in the state to Indianapolis with the exception of Evansville. The Indianapolis Traction Terminal station, completed in 1904, handled thousands of passengers a day and was the world's largest interurban station.
