Taciti historiae : lecture notes, 1829-1830.

Bound volume of notes taken by Ernst von Leutsch at Karl Otfried Müller's lectures on Tacitus's Histories in the winter semester 1829-1830, at the University of Göttingen. At the back of the volume is a separate set of Leutsch's notes, taken at Müller's lectures on the victory odes (Epinikien) of Pindar, in the summer semester 1829, also at the University of Göttingen; those notes have their own title page, and are separately paginated (68 p.). The lectures on Tacitus have contemporary pagination up to p. 125, and then continue with further notes after several blank leaves. The lectures begin with an introduction (p. 1-22) discussing Tacitus's life and writings, and his character as a historian, followed by a commentary (Erklärende Anmerkungen; p. 22) on the histories, organized by book and chapter number, with notes on Book 1 (p. 22-111); Book 2 (p. 111-125, plus 10 p.); Book 3 and 4 (5 p.); and Book 5 (less than one page). The lectures on Pindar appear to address the Olympian odes 1, 2, 13 and 14; and Pythian odes 1-4.
