Includes materials on the Sino-Japanese War of the 1930's, action in the Pacific during World War II, occupation of Japan, atomic bomb testing in the Pacific, in Lebanon, and the Vietnam War. Personal correspondence includes detailed letters to his family and friends about the Miller family's activities, both professional and personal.

Edwin Swain Miller, U.S. Naval officer, was born in Missoula, Montana on November 15, 1910. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1933 and served in the Navy from 1933 until his retirement in 1968. He advanced to the rank of rear admiral on May 1, 1960, and retired in 1968.
