William Hutson Prioleau, Jr. was born on November 22, 1897 in Summerville, South Carolina. He attended Porter Military Academy in Charleston, South Carolina and Woodberry Forest School in near Charlottesville, Virginia. He graduated from the University of South Carolina then went on to Johns Hopkins Medical School. He completed medical school in 1923 and stayed at Johns Hopkins where he completed his internship.
