Geschichte der griechischen Literatur : lecture notes, 1830-1831.

Bound volume of notes taken by Ernst von Leutsch at lectures of August Boeckh at the University of Berlin, in the summer semester 1830 and the winter semester 1830/1831, on topics in the study of Greek literature. The volume includes notes from four courses: 1. the history of Greek literature, summer semester 1830 (p. 1-159, plus 38 unpaginated leaves); 2. Greek meter, winter semester 1830/1831 (p. 1-38); 3. Sophocles's Antigone and Oedipus at Colonus, summer 1830 (p. 1-48, plus 10 unpaginated leaves); and 4. Pindar's victory odes, winter semester 1830/1831 (p. 1-30). The lectures on Sophocles and Pindar include annotated glossaries at the back. The lectures on Pindar begin with a general introduction on Greek lyric poetry and Pindar's work before focusing on the first seven Olympian odes. At the time that Leutsch heard these lectures he had just completed his degree in classics at the Universität Göttingen. He came to Berlin specifically in order to further his studies under Boeckh. In 1831 Leutsch returned to Göttingen to teach, beginning a distinguished academic career there as a professor of classics.
