Commission as 2nd Lieutenant, 6th Cavalry, 12 June 1867, signed by Andrew Jackson; pension papers, 1906, awarding Laura Hentig an increase in benefits; letter from Mathew Leeper to his daughter Laura regretting the necessity of her moving to Arizona; correspondence from Mary Carr whose husband E.A. Carr was Hentig's friend and commanding officer; letter Camp Thomas, 8 Sept 1881, to Mrs. J Harrison telling of Hentig's death and requesting that Mrs. Harison relay the details to her sister Mrs. Laura Hentig.

Andrew Johnson (b. December 29, 1808, Raleigh, North Carolina-d. July 31, 1875, Carter's Station, Tennessee) became the seventeenth president of the United States after the assassination of Abraham Lincoln in 1865. Johnson was born in Raleigh, North Carolina in 1808. He began his political career in Greenville, Tennessee in 1828. At the time of this letter he was the Democratic senator from Tennessee.
