Discussing the "divine defence of gipsies you have writ;" saying he is painting "some most beautiful pictures--much in advance of the age;" complaining about the "barbarous country of ours" and its treatment of "my dear arabs;" adding "I have turned arab, and my name is Fadl abu Mich [?]...so never say that the arabs haven't given a painter to the world because there's me."
