Holograph personal diaries document his college years at Bucknell University, Lewisburg, PA, including commentary on his studies, friendships, social life, girlfriends, aspirations to be a writer, philosophical musings, war, patriotism, and his entry into the Navy as a reserve officer with training at Columbia University, New York City; training as a recognition officer, Columbus, Ohio; Submarine Chaser School in Miami, FL; and then Norfolk, VA. Covers his assignment to USS Stockton (DD-646) as CIC Officer. Diary ends with his transit through the Panama Canal on the way to the Pacific. Several volumes contain poems and notes.
