Means Family papers c. 1900-1965 [manuscript]

The Means Family Papers include the agreement of purchase for the S.W. Means Lumber Company from Dennison Lumber Company, an appraisal of the S.W. Means Lumber Company property on Putnam Street, and copies of both a small biographic outline of Silas Ward Means and his obituary. Included also are photographs depicting the fire at the Lumber Company in 1948, as well as a well preserved 8x11 image of S.W. Means himself. The Means Family Papers focus on S.W. Mean son Eugene as well. A restricted 1943 Wood Aircraft Fabrication Manual issued by the Aeronautical Engineering Department was used by Eugene R. Means at the H.J. Heinz Company during war time production. Daily reports are hand written in the back of the book. Personal notebooks of Eugene R. Means contain written details and dimensions on aircraft maintenance, while another contains written managerial training notes from his time as an aviation inspector. The papers include a training test and handwritten technical study notebook, documents signifying Eugene completion of inspection training, and his authorization to inspect for the AAF from the U.S. War Department. The oversized S.W. Means Lumber Company ledger contains daily transaction information, with the legibility requiring detailed inspection.
