William Kitchin collection on N.C. State Association of Democratic Clubs, 1890 July-October.

Collection contains materials sent to Kitchin related to the association's State Executive Committee and the state convention it called for 24 September 1890 in Raleigh, as well as general preparations for the November election. There are printed letters written by association president Julius S. Carr to be sent to local clubs that called party members to action in "opposition to Republican principles and Negro domination" and announced the state convention. Attached to one is a copy of the organization's constitution and membership application. Other letters were written by Ed Chambers Smith, who was chairman of the organization's Executive Committee. He mainly discussed preparations for the convention and candidates for the ballot, but he also urged Carr to focus on registering Democratic voters, and accusing the Republican Party of "fraud" involving the registration of blacks in Wake county.
