Commissions to Warrick Miller as captain of 1st. Regt. of Kentucky Militia, dated April 5, 1816 and January 11, 1819 respectively; report of Isaac N. Brooks, Surveyor of Jefferson County, Kentucky, of his survey of land including William Fleming's 3000 acre military survey, Cuthbert Bullitt's settlement of 400 acres and preemption of 1000 acres, Bell's tract, Warrick Miller's tract, and John May's survey of 545 acres. Accompanied by land grant (copy) of the Commonweath of Virginia to Cuthbert Bullitt for 1000 acres in Jefferson County, Kentucky dated July 15, 1785; receipts from John Madison, Surveyor of Monongalia Co., Virginia, to Dorsey Penticoast, dated April 10, 1781, for Treasury Warrants dated April 7, 1780 for land entered with him; petition of citizens of Jefferson County, Kentucky, to the Kentucky legislature, signed by Isaac Miller and ten others and dated December 24, 1834, opposing division of the county.

Historical note: In 1792 the Kentucky General Assembly established the Kentucky Militia. The act required that all white males between the ages of eighteen and forty-five be enrolled in the militia, form companies, and participate in several musters each year. These companies could be called to active duty by the governor in case of war, insurrection, or danger to public safety. In 1860 the militia was reorganized into the State Guard, the Enrolled Militia, and the Militia of the Reserve. ...

Isaac Shelby, Kentucky's first governor, was born in Maryland in 1750. As a young man, he served in Lord Dunmore's War and the Revolutionary War, from which he emerge as one of the heroes of the Battle of King's Mountain, South Carolina. Following the war, he and his bride, Susannah Hart, moved to Lincoln County, Kentucky, where he quickly became a leader in Kentucky politics.
