Matthews, Frank, Civil War letters, 1859-1884.

Letters between Frank Matthews and his wife Mary Smith Matthews and from friends and relatives to Frank and Mary document their lives before, during and after the Civil War. The bulk of the letters date from the war and record their courtship, marriage, the birth of their son and life on the home front and in the army during the war. Included are letters from john Smith to his sister Mary from his post at Fort Magruder, Texas. Some legal records are included.
