Born in a village near Kiev, Ukraine, on 24 May 1900, Anatole G. Mazour. He and his parents, Gregori and Sophia Mazurenko, lived in a time of political upheaval. After finishing school in 1916, he served in the Tsar's army until the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917.
