Delos Carleton Emmons (1888-1965) was born in Huntingdon, West Virginia, and attended the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York. He graduated in June, 1909, and received his commission as a Second Lieutenant of Infantry. Early assignments included service at the Presidio, San Francisco, California, Fort Gibbon, Alaska, and Plattsburgh Barracks, New York. At Harris Neck, Georgia, in the remote northern reaches of McIntosh County, the United States government, in the fall of 1942, confiscated the lands along the South Newport and Barbour Island Rivers.
