Autograph letter signed from James Boswell to 'My Dear Sir', [Robert Skene, MP for Fife], Edinburgh, January 6, 1784.

Boswell declares his opposition for Charles James Fox's East India bill, which in his opinion, amounts to an alarming attempt "to overturn our Constitution by creating a greater power than the King, I mean the establishment of East India Commissioners independent of His Majesty..."; he must therefore, albeit reluctantly, deny Skene his backing in the forthcoming election.
