Lee, Frost, and Buckingham family papers, 1851-1911.

Primarily family correspondence. Of particular interest are the letters [John?] Wesley Lee wrote to his wife during the Civil War. Other groups of correspondence include letters to John Wesley Lee from his uncle, Thomas Lee; letters toHattie Frost from her sister and friends; and A.L. Buckingham's letters to his brother.

Thomas Lee was a lawyer and ship-owner from Port Elizabeth, Cumberland County, New Jersey. Between 1803 and 1835, he and James Lee owned a number of sloops and schooners that operated along the east coast of North America. Francis B. Lee was an attorney in Trenton, NJ in 1896. Buckingham was associate professor of speech and drama at Stanford (1911-1944). Relatives (uncle and aunt?), John W. Lee and Mary A. Frost, were married near Greenfield, Illinois in 1861.
