Born to William Hendricks and Ann Parker Paul in Madison, Indiana, John Abram Hendricks (1823-1862) married Frances E. Norwood, with whom he had six children. In addition to serving in the Mexican War as captain of the 16th Indiana Infantry Regiment, Hendricks enlisted in the 22nd Indiana Infantry Regiment of the United States Army during the Civil War. William F. Allee was born in Hendricks County, Ind., in 1844. He enlisted as a private in the 22nd Indiana Infantry Regiment, Company K, in 1861. Allee participated in every regimental engagement and was promoted to the rank of captain in 1865. After the war he married Eliza Merrill Parker and the couple raised four children.
