Real estate agent letter, on pictorial lettersheet of "The T.P. Lukens Land Co.", to a client with rental property in Pasdena, California. He acknowledges receipt of a $500 dollar certificate of deposit and notes that the rental market is slow but thinks her house will rent before too long. The top of the letter has a woodblock engraving with banner containing the company name over a view of Pasadena, California. View has farmland, homes, and roads with a large mountain range in the background. Text underneath the view reads, "Real Estate and General Commission Agents. Office at No.7 East Colorado St. Pasadena, Cal. [Oct. 16th] 188[8]"

Theodore Parker Lukens (October 6, 1848 - July 1, 1918) was an American conservationist, real estate investor, civic leader, and forester who believed that burned over mountains could again be covered in timber which would protect watersheds. Lukens collected pine cones and seeds of different types and conducted experimental plantings on the mountain slopes above Pasadena, California. Theodore P. Lukens was a conservationist and pioneer community leader in Pasadena, CA. Born in Ohio, he came to California with his wife in 1880. He became active in business and municipal affairs, serving as president of the Board of Trustees of the city of Pasadena in 1890-92 and 1894-95. Lukens was a friend of John Muir and promoted many conservation causes.
