James Ewing was the first chair of Clinical Pathology at Cornell University. He founded the Journal of Cancer Research, and was a founding member of the American Association for Cancer Research and the American Cancer Society. Colonel William Otway Owen graduated from the University of Virginia Department of Medicine, 1878. He joined the U.S. Army Medical Corps as assistant surgeon in 1882.
