Minutes of trustee's meetings with information on building the "School House and House for the Teacher," administering estates of Thomas Wadsworth and John Hunter, employing teachers, provisions for admitting pupils, and finances of the school. Lease document, 7 July 1805, allowing Wellman Ligon use of a certain tract of land; 2 contracts, 3 Dec. 1814 and undated, documenting agreements with John Caldwell, teacher; undated letter from B.J. Earle (Greenville, S.C.), to John Black, offering to purchase lands belonging to the school, with a note of approval from the trustees, signed by James Wright. Receipt, 27 Jan. 1830, acknowledging payment from Elihu Watson of tuition "for the poor scholars"; sales agreement, 29 Mar. 1826, disposing of certain furniture, animals, tools and other items, with the proceeds to go to the school; and undated history of the school.

Institution in Laurens County, S.C., named for Thomas Wadsworth (1755-1799), who in his will left a bequest of several properties located in the upstate for the purpose of establishing and maintaining a free school for poor children living within the area of Major Dunlap's Battalion of the Saluda Regiment of the Ninety Six District.
