Letters to Charles Anthony, 1889-1901.

These two letters, written to fellow engineer Charles Anthony, were written from London on October 12, 1889 and January 8, 1901. In these letters, Mansergh talks about his work on the Worthing Pier, Anthony's work in South America, including the water supply in Buenos Aires and the Don Pedro Segundo Railway in Brazil. Mansergh also talks about becoming the president of the Institution of Civil Engineers and offers to read a paper of Anthony's at the institution's meeting. The 1889 letter is signed for him "per J. Claxton Fidler."

James Mansergh was born in Lancaster in 1834. He started his engineering career in railway work and then designed many sewer and fresh water projects including: Worthing Pier; Elan Valley Dam and Elan aqueduct for Birmingham Corporation Water Department; Hury Reservoir for Stockton and Middlesbrough, England; and Claymills Pumping Station for Burton Upon Trent, England.
