Contemporary copy and abstract of Wadsworth's will, 14 Sept. 1799 (Charleston, S.C.) directing disposition of his property between his wife and his mother, emancipating his slaves and providing endowment for a free school for impoverished children in Laurens District, S.C. Wadsworth's will directs disposition of his property between his wife and his mother, emancipating his slaves and placing them "under the special care... of the Society of Quakers or Friends... on Bush River.... &... as much land, as when divided... will amount to Fifty acres for each of my said Slaves.... [also] one good... Cow, and a Sow," and certain lands to be used in establishing "a Free School for poor children" residing in Laurens County, S.C., naming H.W. DeSaussure, John Hunter, and John E. Colhoun to establish the school with a provision for five trustees to be elected by inhabitants of the area, and listing William Turpin and Benjamin Cudworth as executors; second document docked as: "Extracts from Thos. Wadsworth's Will Relat[in]g to a Free School."
