Steam engine inspection diary, 1854-1856.

This diary, by an unknown author, was used by a horsepower estimator and steam engine inspector. The author kept the diary and included the following information regarding his visits to various steam engines at addresses in New York City: name of company, address, date visited, type of business, type of steam engine, size of cylinder, number of revolutions, miscellaneous notes and amount of horsepower used. At the end of the manuscript is a hand-drawn "Table of Nominal Horse Power of High Pressure Engines. Length of Stroke in Feet." No covers; binding is coming loose.
