Henry Watson Kent served as the first professional librarian of the Grolier Club from 1903 to 1906 and originated its classification scheme. He continued to serve the Club during the following decades through its Library, Publications and House committees, and its Council. From 1906 until his retirement in 1940 Kent was Secretary of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
