John Waite journal, 1759.

Journal kept by Capt. John Waite of Falmouth (now Portland, Me.), during the expedition that sailed for Louisbourg on 4 June 1759 and captured Québec on 18 Sept. 1759. Waite commanded the sloop Swallow. The expedition was under the command of Gen. James Wolfe (1727-1759) and Adm. Charles Saunders (1713?-1775).

Sea captain and merchant; b. in Newbury, Mass., he commanded one of the transports in Gen. James Wolfe's expedition against Québec in 1759. He was later a member of the Provincial Congress in Massachusetts (1776), and in the same year was appointed Sheriff of Cumberland County, Me., a position he held until 1809.
