Marie Fuhriman Olsen oral history collection, 1970-2000.

Materials related to Marie Fuhriman Olsen and her work in documenting the history of her hometown of Providence, Utah, in particular, and Cache Valley (Utah and Idaho), in general, as well as her numerous oral history interviews of Cache Valley residents. Her interviewees include farmers, store owners, school teachers, extension agents, college professors, and college students, plus a former university president, a doctor, a judge, and a musician. Topics include: the elderly and hospice care, stories of pioneer life and farming in Cache Valley, college life at Utah State University and other schools in the valley, the LDS church and related subjects, such as Mormon missions, the Logan temple and Logan tabernacle, and polygamy. When present, cassette tapes are attached to the inside front cover of each folder. Some folders also include tape transcripts, photographs or slides, letters, history articles, and/or newspaper clippings. Also included in this collection are the Marie Fuhriman Olsen papers (1970-2000), which contain some Olsen family records, materials related to oral histories, Olsen's writings on the elderly, Sunshine Terrace, and hospice care, and Olsen's masters thesis.

Marie Fuhriman Olsen, of Providence City, was born October 19, 1925. After graduating from high school, she attended Utah State University (USU) and then served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She married Blaine Olsen on January 15, 1948. Olsen returned to USU to complete her bachelor's degree in 1976 and soon began working toward an MA in Sociology.
