Seamen's papers, 1844-1850.

A letter with a list of the men sailing on the Ship Romulus of Mystic, Connecticut, on a whaling voyage to the Indian Ocean, 1844; discharges signed by the U.S. Consul permitting two sailors to stay on Maui in the Hawaiian Islands, E.D. Jordon of the Barque Newburyport and Charles F. Jones of the Ship Merrimack,, 1846 and 1849 respectively; a letter to New London, Connecticut, lawyers Bristol & Goddard in 1850, asking their help for a Mrs. Hagerty of Albany, New York, who wanted to procure the pay due to her runaway son. He left the whale Ship Catherine while in the Sandwich Islands, complaining of harsh treatment. The boy was about fifteen years old when he ran away to sea two to three years before this appeal. The final document in this gathered collection is an undated discharge for Leander Waters in Hawaii.
