Depositions read in New London County Court, 1850.

Depositions in the case of John Lewis vs. Austin Steele of the whale Ship Dromo. Lewis was the cook who came aboard in Hawaii, Steele the Master. Lewis sued the captain for assault and battery. The men who made the depositions were Joseph Myers (of Portugal), William Simpson of Providence, Rhode Island, Morgan Fowler, and Samuel Lewis of Cape Verde. The depositions were delivered to court in an envelope bearing the writing of a justice of the peace.
